Vanities
This generative series of digital and analogue sculptures and prints reappraises the genre and aesthetics of the vanity within the digital condition. The Great Decimation transitions from the digitisation of a human skull to its topological decimation by a custom algorithm to its declination in stepped figurations to be finally projected back into the physical world as re-naturalized artefacts, the series journeys into a world of existential self-reflection after the digital.
All decimated skulls have been 3d printed to the size of their original human ancestor and hand-coated with a perfected technique that re-naturalises their digitisation between granular limestone and fine concrete accretions. Amplifying their mythological consideration in natural history, the Vanities Have Been Fossilised in resin and cast in the aesthetics of ancient artefact preservation.
