The Following Cube is a series reporting on a durational performance. I sat in front of a screen in an isolated chamber, wearing a Brain-Computer interface. For 6 weeks, I spent 1 hour per day observing endless fluctuations of shapes in search of an ideal one. 8 points in 4 dimensions, constituting a cube's general geometric description and controlling its mesh deformations, constantly moving in space. While doing the mental task of recognising a cube in such flow, AI algorithms are trained to decode neural patterns triggered by this peculiar moment, immersed in the duration of such performance.
During such performance, 5 moments have been frozen once a neural pattern has been recognised and punctuated the five weeks succeeding the initial one of calibration with the interface. 5 Following Cubes. These moments correspond to specific shape states from the prototypical cube in fluctuation. They have been 3d printed and hand-coated in a mixture of charcoal to shine a light on their shadowy presence within the cognitive flow of an ideal concept. Assembled as a time series, they express the non-linearity and richness of one’s mind concerning basic and universal objects.
Produced as a sequence-based sculpture, all selected cubes are put together linearly in time to display the non-linearity of their cubeness in the mind.
Installation front view, wall-mounted on its support. Each following cube with its own timestamp.
