Crocuses (named initially in French: Les Colchiques) is a series of sequentially generated sculptures, named after the eponymous poem of Guillaume Apollinaire, that reappraises notions of non-linearity and filiation in the generative. Refining previous interactive and generative methods of shape selection with Brain-Computer interfaces, a generative shape growth system supports the emergence of an evolving form from an evolving thought with no particular aim but to make sense of what comes to mind.
The 12 Following Shapes are generated sculptures and constitute the same object growing over time at different steps. They represent a sort of linear filiation in the growth sequence, where each moment is subject to the wandering of the mind, steering the random growth of the shape. 3D printed and displayed in a grid, they have been coated in greyscale tones that recall their digital rendering.
